It was an early start for students taking part in the second Cambridge University trip for Year 9. We were greeted on arrival by Rosie, Schools Liaison Officer at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. It was straight down to business with a quick tour and then a transfer to Clare College, as Caius were setting up for their end-of-term May Ball. There followed an interactive talk about what university is all about.
After lunch we looked at what studying at Cambridge may be like, with a lively Q&A session with questions ranging from ‘How many universities can I apply for?’ to ‘Are sheets provided in the college bedrooms?’ The students were excellent representatives of Hellesdon High School and as Mrs Smith, Head of Y9, commented, “It was a pleasure to take these students on the trip.”
The coach trip back to Norwich was very quiet with most students tired after the intellectual challenges of the day.
My thanks go to Cambridge University for a challenging and interesting day, the staff who accompanied the group (Mrs Smith and Sophie from Sixth Form) and of course NEACO who funded the visit.
Mr Taylor, Director of Sixth Form
