Dear Student and Parents/CarerGerry Batty, Headteacher

I hope, like me, you are looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead as this school continues its journey of development and improvement, as it strives for excellence in all areas of learning. As you begin the process of choosing a new school with your child, a wide variety of choices are presented to you, not just in the range of the schools, but in the opportunities offered by all schools. I hope this website will give you sufficient information about our school to help you make an informed choice and then, in conjunction with our Open Evening, you will feel that this school is the best one for your son or daughter.

The school has enjoyed another successful year. The GCSEs were the second highest ever achieved by the school, with 68% of the students achieving 5A*-C. I would like to offer my hearty congratulations to the staff and the students for this great effort. The A level results registered a large increase in the number of points achieved per student , considerably improving on last year’s achievements.

There is however more to schools than raw examination results, important as they are. Hellesdon High School is a community of learning, which has a special and unique ethos based upon mutual respect and support. Every member of the school is encouraged to give of their best and to try to achieve the highest possible standards. We therefore have very high expectations of each other, and this is the main driving force that will continue to drive standards upwards.

There is a highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic staff who will provide ample opportunities for the students to maximise their potential, but at the same time be able to take their place in a technological and multicultural society. There is a wide range of extracurricular activities such as music, the Duke of Edinburgh award, a variety of team and other sports, and many more. These provide all students with the chance to excel at some activity.

Our buildings are of a high standard, and include a large assembly hall, sports hall, indoor swimming pool and playing fields. In 2007 the school enjoyed an extensive new build and refurbishment of over £4.5m in order to accommodate the 225 Year 7 pupils who joined the school in that year. The school has recently been re-designated as a Specialist Technology College and it is our ambition that, with improving results, it will achieve a second specialism in the next few years.
