HHS Mark 75th Anniversary of D-Day

On Wednesday 6 June, the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Hellesdon High are proud to support the Ancre Somme Association’s Ribbon of Poppies campaign – raising money for Veterans With Dogs. The aim of this campaign is to “continue to recognise the sacrifice made by our British Military and to ensure that their bravery, both past and present, is remembered through our support towards our Armed Forces Charities and various Armed Forces legacy projects”

To support the campaign, we raised our D-Day 75 flag for the day. We have also planted some poppies in the school’s wildlife area, which should be in full bloom just in time for Remembrance Day this November.

With the kind permission of Major R W Gibbs on behalf of the Commandmant, Colonel Kearn Malin, we invited our Army Cadets to wear their uniforms to honour those who served our country on the beaches of Normandy 75 years ago.

Students learned more about D-Day during lessons and from the visual displays around the cloakrooms.
