I would like to welcome you to our website. If this is your first visit then in some ways we are in a very similar position, as I am also new to this school. I am looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead as Hellesdon High continues its journey of development and improvement, striving for excellence in all areas of learning. As you begin to explore our school I hope you will get a strong impression of what it is like to learn and teach within our community. .. The school has enjoyed another very successful year. The KS3 results registered another improvement and are well above County and National averages. The GCSEs were the highest ever achieved by the school with 68% of the students achieving 5A* - C and is again well above the relevant averages. I would like to offer my hearty congratulations to the staff and the students for this great effort. At Sixth Form level Hellesdon works with Taverham High School and with Costessey High School, which together form the Wensum Sixth Form Partnership. The joint Sixth Form serves over 300 students. The KS5 results were also strong, consolidating last year’s performance. There is, however, more to schools than raw examination results, important as they are. Hellesdon High School is a community of learning which has a special and unique ethos based upon mutual respect and support. Every member of the school is encouraged to give of their best and to try to achieve the highest possible standards. We therefore have very high expectations of each other, and this is the main driving force that will continue to drive standards upwards. There is a highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic staff who will provide ample opportunities for the students to maximize their potential but at the same time be able to take their place in a technological and multicultural society. There is a wide range of extracurricular activities, including music, Duke of Edinburgh, a range of team and other sports, and many more. These provide all students with the chance to excel at something. Our buildings are of a high standard, and include a large assembly hall, sports hall, indoor swimming pool and playing fields. In 2007 the school enjoyed an extensive new build and refurbishment of over £4.5m in order to accommodate the 225 Year 7 pupils who joined the school in that year. The school has recently been redesignated as a Specialist Technology College and it is our ambition, that with improving results, it will achieve a second specialism in the next few years. Successful schools are built on partnerships with parents, governors and the local community. Hellesdon High is always looking for new partners so that both can develop and improve. This could be through the sharing of knowledge, resources, personnel or indeed all three. If you feel you would like to be part of this exciting time then please contact me at head@hellesdonhigh.norfolk.sch.uk In this Olympic year, where Team GB has demonstrated so clearly the benefits of hard work and determination that we should all feel inspired to “live the dream”, I invite you to share in ours. Our website is constantly changing, reflecting the wealth and variety of achievement in the school. You are most cordially invited to visit us again in the near future. My very best wishes, Gerard Batty |
