WILLKOMMEN! BIENVENUE! WELCOME!
Welcome to the MFL Department at Hellesdon High School.
Language skills for work, travel and leisure are more and more important for young people, as Norfolk becomes part of a global economy and develops links with other parts of Europe and beyond.
Students already learning German will continue to study the language until the end of Year 9 at least. Students entering Year 7 from 2019 will focus on either French or Spanish; MFL remains a core subject until the end of Year 9.
All three languages are offered at GCSE, where they count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc). Students following the EBacc pathway will continue with their language to GCSE at the end of Year 11.
At A level we offer French, German and Spanish to students with a grade 5 or above at GCSE, in conjunction with other local Sixth Form centres if there are not enough students to form a viable class.
Learning a language is not only useful for communication, meeting new people and discovering other cultures, but can also be great fun. At Hellesdon, we develop language skills through classroom games, creative projects, ICT, songs and music, films and visits abroad.
