PSHCE Curriculum for Year 7

PERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH AND CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

 

PSHE and Citizenship are separate and distinct subjects on the National Curriculum, each with its own set of skills, range of content and levels of attainment.

 

However, in most schools – including Hellesdon High – PSHE and Citizenship are taught as a combined course.

 

PSHE:

 

Under the new curriculum review, PSHE has been split into two sets of guidelines: Personal Well Being and Economic Well Being. These are guidelines for schools to use in order to fulfil the legal requirements as well as meeting the needs of their students.

 

CITIZENSHIP:

 

“Citizenship equips pupils with the knowledge and skills needed for effective and democratic participation. It helps pupils to become informed, critical, active citizens who have the confidence and conviction to work collaboratively, take action and try to make a difference in their communities and the wider world.”

Students will need pens, pencils, a ruler, coloured pens/pencils

http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews This website will cover comprehensively the background to many of the topics studied eg, How to keep Safe Online.

 

HOMEWORK:

 

This will be set fortnightly. (Students have one lesson per week.)
Homework tasks will be varied: for example, a research task, worksheet, or written work on paper.
Students are encouraged to have a plastic envelope/folder in which to take homework sheets home in and for their neat and safe return.

 

USEFUL STUDY TIPS:

 

It would be useful for students to watch the news regularly to improve on their knowledge of current affairs. ‘BBC NEWSROUND’ is particularly appropriate and informative.
