Night Light

Brief: Many people do not like sleeping in a totally dark room. In this project, design and make the prototype of an electronic night light that will give a comforting glow when it gets dark.

Description of Project: This project introduces students to fundamental electronics principles and techniques. The basic circuit consists of a light sensor, transistor and LED.


Pen Holder

Brief: Desks can become untidy with a litter of pens, pencils and general stationery. You are going to design and make the prototype of a stylish pen holder for a specific target market

Project Description: This project is about using modelling to develop designs. It also teaches the students some basic computer aided design techniques using the software 2D Design version 2, copies of which are available in the library fro home use.


Pull Along Toy

Brief: Design and make the prototype of a pull along toy for a child

Project Description: This project is designed to teach pupils basic wood working skills – cutting , shaping, drilling and finishing, as well as an introduction to cams.



Getting to Grips: A series of assignments that are designed to teach pupils basic food skills as well as learning about healthy eating.

At the end pupils are entered for the Active Kids Get Cooking one star award.

During this year the students will make:-

A fruit fusion
Pizza Toast
Fruit flapjacks
Pasta salad
Courgette and cheese muffins
A fruit smoothie



Fun with Fleece

Brief: Fleece is flexible, easy to work , inexpensive and recycled. It can be decorated in a variety of ways. Your task is to design and make a fleece hat for a specific target group.

Description of Project: This project introduces the students to basic sewing techniques including how to use a sewing machine.



All specialist areas mark in the same way. Day to day marking is done on a four point scale:-

Outstanding, Good, Acceptable, Requires Improvement
