Aspire – Years 7-8

    Key Steps

Students are selected for or offered the Aspire course, based on agreement with their Head of Year and the SENDCO. It is a supportive course for students in Years 7-8, culminating in the Key Steps Award.

Key Steps is a programme of activities in a range of topic areas, covering Citizenship, PSHE, Environment, Personal Finance and Enterprise education and Internationalism. These are presented in the form of challenges which encourage students to develop their personal skills and take responsibility for their own learning.

    Rewarding Achievement

For a young person using Key Steps, evidence of how they have completed each Personal Challenge is put into a Portfolio – a file or folder; this can mean photographs, lists, reports, typed sheets, artwork, films… and so on. Examples of planning and reviewing and a summary of skills development are also included.

Each time 30-35 hours of challenges have been completed and Portfolios have been verified by the tutor, the young people involve receive a Key Steps certificate.
