Each year, our school community is brought together with the Christmas Carol Service. This long standing tradition at Hellesdon High School is a wonderful way for us to finish the term and to reflect on the year gone by.
It wasn’t just traditional readings and carols on Thursday 13 December – we were also treated to a performance by some talented Year 7 musicians: George Southgate (drums); Ronnie Burell (guitar); and Year 8 singer Deanna Matthews, who sang their rendition of the thought provoking song Take me Home by Jess Glynn.
It was especially magical to welcome our friends, the Arden Grove Songbirds, to sing with the cast of Peter Pan, following some singing workshops earlier this year. Coming together to sing is always such a pleasure and we are grateful to the many parents and staff from Arden Grove who came to support us. Their renditions of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer and Sparkle and Shine stole the show. The applause at the end of their performance was a little too loud for some…
This year, members of the S.H.I.E.L.D team (Supporting Hellesdon’s Inclusion, Equality, Love and Diversity) prepared an Alternative Christmas Message which encouraged us to remember the diversity without our school community. The words of these students encouraged us to reflect on different cultures and traditions and people in less fortunate situations.
A big thank you goes to Rev’d Graham Kirk Spriggs for his contribution to the service, and for hosting us in such a spectacular venue. We also need to extend a big thank you to both Miss Betts and Miss Taylor, from our Music Department, who did an excellent job of running their last Carol Service for us at HHS. And, of course, thank you to all of those who came to watch as part of the congregation – the church was full to capacity!
From behalf of all the staff at Hellesdon High School, we would like to wish all our students and their families a Merry Christmas and a restful break.
