Inclusion at hellesdon high school

The aims of the Inclusion Centre are:

  • to reduce the number of students excluded from mainstream education
  • to encourage students to modify their behaviour
  • to ensure that any student who is internally excluded has access to the School curriculum

Guidance on Internal Exclusion

Internal exclusion is the equivalent of what was previously an 'exclusion'. If the gravity of a breach of School rules warrants a student's temporary removal from the School community, and other disciplinary procedures are not deemed sufficient, then the student will be internally excluded.

Internal exclusion is a disciplinary measure which follows on from other procedures in place in the School. Before a student is internally excluded, other procedures will have been explored, such as lunchtime detentions, departmental procedures, reports, duty room, Saturday morning detention and parental involvement. A student should be aware that if his/her behaviour is inappropriate and a continuing issue, internal exclusion will be the outcome.

Internal exclusion of a student will be decided at the discretion of the Head of Year, Head of Inclusion and Head Teacher.

Inclusion Manager: Mrs S Crowther

Head of Inclusion: Mr P Jones

the inclusion day

On the day of inclusion the student should arrive at the Inclusion Centre at 8:50. If the student is late without reasonable explanation, there will be an after-school detention.

If the student comes to school on foot or by bike, s/he must not arrive before 08:50. Students arriving by school transport will go to room H10 to wait with Mrs Rix, Pastoral Support Manager.

If at any point during the day a student's behaviour is deemed inappropriate, the student will be removed and required to attend the Centre the next day until inclusion is complete.

Student timetable

08:50 - Student taken to Inclusion Centre.

10:50 - Student has a break inside the Centre.

11:05 - End of student break.

12:05 - Student lunch inside the Centre.

15:20 - Student leaves School.

At the end of the day, students are free to walk/cycle home, be collected by parents/carers or catch the late bus at 16.00.

Work: Students in the Inclusion Centre are expected to continue with schoolwork that they would have completed in class. This is given to the Inclusion Manager by the student's teachers.

Uniform: Students in the Inclusion Centre are required to wear full School uniform.

Reintegration: If a student has been internally excluded, a reintegration meeting will take place between Head of Year, Parents/Carers and the student. It will address issues of behaviour and should involve a behaviour plan. This meeting should take place the day after internal exclusion. If Parents/Carers do not attend the meeting then the student should be sent home until a date when they can attend.
